Mecalac eMWR: Powering the Next Generation of Construction

EMWR WHEEL EXCAVATOR REDEFINING URBAN EXCAVATION

Mid-sized wheeled excavators are essential for urban jobsites. Yet, their electric alternative do not exist today. These machines demand substantial power, which necessitates large batteries—an inherent challenge for their compact design. Balancing battery capacity, autonomy, performance, and cost control has been a long-unsolved equation.

Mecalac’s R&D efforts have addressed this challenge, culminating in the eMWR: the first 100% electric midi wheeled excavator that delivers mobility, power, and efficiency in a compact package.

RECONCILING COMPACTNESS WITH BATTERY RANGE

In traditional midi wheeled excavators, the diesel engine is housed in the upper structure. However, the compact, rounded design of this machine class leaves no room for the large batteries required for electric operation. Mecalac has addressed this by reengineering the architecture, relocating the batteries to the undercarriage—a pioneering approach that transforms the machine’s design.

This new configuration not only accommodates larger batteries but also lowers the center of gravity, improving stability and maneuverability.

INNOVATION EXPERTISE BACKED BY TECHNOLOGY

Positioning the batteries in the undercarriage is more than a design choice—it’s an engineering milestone. By consolidating all key power functions in one location, Mecalac has reduced the risks associated with excess wiring and connectors, ensuring durability and reliability. The two Lithium-ion batteries are regulated by an advanced temperature management system that preserves performance and extends service life.

Cooling circuits housed in the upperframe transport fluids to the undercarriage through the swivel joint—a sophisticated solution that ensures effective thermal regulation without compromising functionality

FAST CHARGING FOR MAXIMUM COST EFFICIENCY

The eMWR’s battery capacity has been carefully optimized to deliver a full day’s work on a single charge Combined with fast-charging capabilities, this ensures maximum uptime and cost efficiency. Given that batteries represent a significant share of the total cost of electric machinery, this design strikes an ideal balance between autonomy and affordability.

The energy management on the eMWR enables to drive and work simultaneously seamlessly. While one electric motor powers the implements, a second drives the new electric transmission, providing unmatched traction force and energy recovery during braking. This dual-motor setup ensures peak efficiency and smooth performance.

SUSTAINABILITY AT EVERY STAgE

The eMWR is manufactured in Europe, adhering to strict EU regulations and using European-sourced components, including its batteries. With most parts and hydraulic components produced within a 30km radius of the factory, the machine’s logistical footprint is significantly reduced.

Beyond emissions-free operation, the eMWR offers reduced vibration, noise, and maintenance, making it ideal for urban environments. Operators, residents, and jobsite stakeholders benefit from its quieter, cleaner performance, enhancing the overall urban experience.

MECALAC’S VISION FOR THE FUTURE

The eMWR reflects Mecalac’s unwavering commitment to innovation and sustainability. By providing a high- performance, compact, and cost-effective electric solution, Mecalac is making cutting-edge electric technology accessible to all.
