New attractively priced aluminium-shielded cable

For applications in which the premium cable as per DIN 16765 with its special inserts, metal mesh shielding and robust silicone sheath is not necessary, HASCO offers the cable H1251/… with aluminium shielding and PVC covering. This not only offers outstanding protection against interference signals, but it is also very attractively priced. Available in four different wiring variants and lengths of 3 and 6 metres, it allows perfect solutions for individual applications.

Tool-free cable connection

A plug, that sets new standards in the wiring of injection moulds is proving to be particularly user-friendly. The integrated fasteners do not need any tools to securely fix the strands. A mechanism in the plug holds the cable firmly and at the same time enables easier removal. As also necessary with previous wiring, cable lugs are required and the wiring time itself can be reduced by 75 % compared with the screwed variant.

Space-saving plug for 12 control zones

In view of space problems in the mould area, HASCO offers a new plug, which not only has an impressive 12 control zones, but also maintains the maximum load ability of 16A per zone. This means that less space is needed for the plug connections in the mould and large, complex terminal boxes are outdated. The bulkhead housing is identical to the previous 6-zone plug inserts.

Seamless integration with HASCO wiring

Finally, HASCO now offers a connecting cable to fit the new plug with, on the one hand, the new compact plug layout and, on the other, the proven HASCO wiring. This means that the existing control technology can continue to be used without problem.

He emphasizes that print, as a multi-sensory medium, evokes emotions and influences purchasing decisions, making it a crucial element of successful multi-channel strategies. “This convention-exhibition is the most important meeting point for decision-makers, offering a unique combination of knowledge transfer, networking, and the presentation of innovative technologies.”

When the packaging is opened, a stylized bee world unfolds, featuring intricate honeycombs and individually printed bees that are not only decorative but also functional, thanks to the ValiGate security solution. Tactile effects and high-quality materials further enhance the packaging, adding unique value. Additional highlight projects are already in the pipeline.

In eight themed worlds, exhibitors will showcase the diverse possibilities that print offers in multi-channel publishing, covering all its facets and applications. “Dialogue Marketing” will focus on personalised communication with customers, “Value Added Printing” will present multi-sensory printing experiences, and “Label & Packaging” will showcase the latest trends and innovations in packaging technology and labelling. Tides Studios’ Shades of Identity, produced and customized by 3D People on request

Additive manufacturing (AM) technologies have proved time and again that they are capable of making things and making things better. This has proven true once again with the polymer powder bed fusion (PBF) AM process for the production of stylish and original eyewear.

As a case in point, Tides Studios, based in London, has built a successful business by focusing on eyewear, specifically sunglasses, utilising polymer PBF AM and some key finishing techniques alongside a made in London business model that contributes to its sustainability goals.

Founded by Joseph Alpert, Tides Studios is a sustainable design company that originally focused on make-up and brand packaging, until it expanded into eyewear and launched its own brands and full collection of sunglasses. It also produces bespoke, made-to-order sunglasses, or ‘Shades of Identity.’

The premise that the studio adheres to is that “sunglasses go beyond their practical role of sun protection; they tap into human desires for privacy, mystery, and control over perception. Ultimately eyewear has been a large part of popular culture from the stage to dancers in the crowd and we want to be part of that evolving story.”

For Tides Studios this evolution goes even further beyond the practicalities and the style – to the means of manufacture. Eyewear is not a unique application for AM in 2024, but unique is absolutely a word that can be attributed to the Tides Studios collection as well as commissioned, bespoke sunglasses for customers that are fully enabled by additive technologies and an ecosystem of efficient finishing technologies.

According to Joseph: “The nature of additive technologies is a key enabler for how we design and empowers us to experiment freely, pushing boundaries to create eyewear that fits a diverse range of styles, faces, and preferences. Thus, for us, and many of our customers, eyewear isn’t just an accessory—it’s a platform for self-expression, reflecting both cutting-edge technology and the individuality of its wearer.”

Joseph and his team had been watching the maturation of AM technologies for a number of years and utilising them frequently for product development work. The ideas for the sunglasses had materialised 2-3 years ago, in collaboration with a fashion brand La Maskarade, but the early prototypes were heavy and not user-friendly in the slightest. The idea to use 3D printing technologies to hollow out the heavy frames was posited and tested, with functional prototype runs that resulted in the first model for the studio.

Subsequently, Tides launched the first models and garnered “a ton of interest,” according to Joseph. “It really blew up and exceeded our greatest expectations and we transitioned to an eyewear business full time about a year ago.”

The business is fully enabled by 3D printing, with Joseph’s convictions that additive technology, specifically PBF, could produce Tides original designs paying off. “Although, it wouldn’t have happened without an old man in engineering collaborating with young people in fashion,” he quipped. The development phase took time too, and Joseph and his team worked with 3D People during this time.

“We did send prototypes out to other AM bureaux early on, and there were some good results with the prints themselves. What sold us on 3D People, though, was how accommodating they were to our vision, and finding solutions that would allow us to develop the collection and move into production with them. While the PBF production process is vital, we needed more. Specifically in terms of bespoke colour options and a superior finish to every pair of glasses.”

Polymer PBF AM processes offer the best strength and flexibility for eyewear as well as enabling complex, unique and intricate designs that can be produced cost-effectively. However, finishing PBF parts that come off the machine is an essential post processing step for any application that is going to be touching the skin. PBF parts tend to have a sand- papery feel to them and can be rough, especially on the sensitive skin around the face. Smoothing and strengthening the surface finish is a must.

Indeed, 3D People were able to offer Tides Studios a unique finish solution to meet their needs in a cost-effective way. They were able to combine their in-house vibro polishing and vapour smoothing capabilities to achieve the ultimate finish. This, along with the broadest palette of colour dye options in the UK gave Tides exactly what they needed. As a result, 3D People are now completing batch production runs for Tides Studios every month, up to 500 items each time.

Felix Manley, Co-Founder of 3D People commented: “Working with Joseph and the Tides team has really cemented for us how important finishing options are for production applications of additive techs like MJF and SLS, which we run in-house at our facility in London. It is why we place as much emphasis on finishing systems as we do on the 3D printing systems. By focusing on the application, we are able to deliver the best possible finishing results, which, when you look at the Tides Sunglasses, speak for themselves.”

The London connection is an important one. All of Tides Studios sunglasses are sourced and made locally in London. This is with the single exception of the lens base, with the only factory to manufacture them based in China. However, that is sourced raw and is then cut and assembled at Tides’ Whitechapel operations. As Joseph commented: “‘Made in London’ isn’t just a label—it’s a commitment to sustainability, authenticity, and accountability in every pair of glasses we create.”

Tides Studios designs and makes sunglasses for customers from all over the world, and this includes for some recognisable names such as Beyonce for her Renaissance tour, and British stylist, Betsy Johnson.

MOL Group Drives Innovation with HVO and SAF Fuel Production

MOL Group has produced a diesel fuel containing Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at the refinery of Slovnaft in Bratislava. The quality of the products has been verified by radioisotope analysis by the independent specialist laboratory of Isotoptech Zrt. The successful production test confirms that MOL Group is technologically ready for the production of alternative synthetic fuels, which is part of the company’s long-term SHAPE TOMORROW strategy.

Biodiesel HVO of vegetable origin was successfully produced at the Bratislava Refinery. HVO was produced using oil from cashew nut shells and the biocomponent produced this way was processed together with crude oil. MOL Group has been using the so-called co-processing at the Danube Refinery in Százhalombatta for years: the process reduces the emissions of traditional fuels by mixing plant residues, as the bio and fossil components are processed simultaneously directly during production. The production test was successful: the diesel product was analysed by the Hungarian Isotoptech Zrt laboratory which confirmed that it contains the required ratio of HVO.

At the same time, MOL Group’s Bratislava Refinery conducted another production test, which produced a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by co-processing as well. In this case, the company also created value from waste: it processed partially refined cooking oil with the traditional raw material. The test proved that the Bratislava Refinery’s production unit used for the production of standard aviation kerosene is also suitable for producing sustainable aviation fuel.

“We are technologically ready to produce biodiesel of vegetable origin as well as sustainable aviation fuel. This could open a new chapter in the sustainable efforts of MOL Group: we offer our customers an increasing variety and quantity of fuels, thus contributing to the smart energy transition as well,” said Csaba Zsótér, Senior Vice President, Fuels at MOL Group.

“The fact that Slovnaft has passed this test is a confirmation of our position as an important player in the CEE region. The competence in chemical production that we have acquired over the long history of the company must be preserved and developed in line with where the company is moving and what kind of future we want to create,” said Gabriel Szabó, Vice Chairman of the Slovnaft Management Board and Vice President Downstream of the MOL Group.

Currently, very few refineries in the world produce SAF. Slovnaft has thus become one of the first refineries capable of producing aviation fuel meeting the quality requirements set for SAF. In the context of EU environmental targets, SAF is to account for 2% of total aviation fuel consumption from this year, with this percentage gradually increasing each year. The share of SAF is to increase to 6% by 2030, 20% by 2035, and 70% by 2050. These requirements will apply to all flights originating in the EU, regardless of destination. Slovnaft, as well as the MOL Group, also cooperate with the Faculty of Aeronautics of the Technical University of Kosice in the testing of SAF aviation fuel.

This initiative will take place in Chicago, United States, in March, where a delegation of 19 Brazilian companies will showcase their products at The Inspired Home Show, promoting the international presence of the converted plastics sector. This exhibition is recognized as one of the premier global events in the housewares and utilities industry, drawing thousands of exhibitors and attendees from various countries. It serves as a distinctive platform for unveiling products, trends, and innovations across multiple categories, including housewares, decoration, electronics, stationery, childcare, and home organization. The 2025 edition will place a particular emphasis on sustainability, home technology, and lifestyle. Leading companies in the market will converge to present their solutions tailored to the modern consumer. Additionally, The Inspired Home Show will host lectures, panels, and workshops led by industry experts, addressing current market demands. This fair holds significant importance in our industry’s calendar, serving as an exceptional platform for companies aiming to enhance their global presence, broaden their network of contacts, and finalize international agreements. The participation of Brazilian producers and suppliers adds considerable value, as it underscores the capabilities of our industry, which possesses substantial potential to compete in and penetrate new markets, states Carlos Moreira, Executive Director of the Brazilian Plastic Institute and CPO of Think Plastic Brazil. At the fair, the Brazilian pavilion will showcase Color Trend 2025, themed “The Truth of the Dream,” curated by the esteemed architect Gabriela de Matos. Attendees will also find a QR Code for accessing the Yearbook 2024, a digital catalog featuring product launches and innovations from over 250 Brazilian companies. Additionally, this venue will host the IV World Plastic Connection Summit, the premier Brazilian event with an international focus on the converted plastics sector. Scheduled to take place in Brazil from April 8 to 10, the summit will revolve around the theme “Converted plastic from Brazil: coloring the world with design, innovation, and sustainability.” This hybrid event, which is free and accessible online, will feature distinguished speakers and will unveil Color Trend 2026, authored by Marcelo Rosenbaum. ENGEL is expanding its renowned tie-bar-less victory injection moulding machine series with the integration of the previous e-motion TL, now introduced as the victory electric. This innovative addition combines the strengths of tie-bar-less technology with the advanced features of servo-electric drives, setting new standards in production technology.

By incorporating the successful e-motion TL into the victory series under the name victory electric, ENGEL has restructured its portfolio of tie-bar-less injection moulding machines, offering three distinct categories within a single series: electric, hybrid, and hydraulic.

The machine has been upgraded with state-of-the-art drive components for improved energy efficiency. The redesigned injection units deliver faster injection speeds and enhanced user-friendliness. Components are now more accessible and easier to replace, simplifying maintenance tasks such as the servicing of the plasticising cylinder. These improvements result in higher performance, energy savings, and increased machine availability.

A further innovation of the victory electric is the integration of hydraulics for clamping forces starting at 80 tonnes. This meets market demands for a variety of tools requiring hydraulic support. Additionally, this solution is significantly more cost-efficient than externally supplied hydraulics, while maintaining the machine’s compact footprint.

The victory electric is available in clamping forces ranging from 30 to 130 tonnes, designed to meet the needs of industries requiring high flexibility, exceptional precision, and short cycle times. Key application areas include sectors demanding large quantities of high-precision parts in short cycles, such as medical technology, the automotive and electronics industries, as well as technical moulding. With this machine, ENGEL aims to further strengthen its market leadership in these sectors.

The victory electric delivers precision in two stages. First, its electric injection units ensure highly accurate control of the injection moulding process, shot by shot. This results in significantly improved part quality and exceptionally low scrap rates – a major advantage in cost-intensive production environments. Another benefit of the electric drive system is its short response times. This enables very short cycle times while maintaining consistently high part quality. In high-volume production, where every second counts, this provides a distinct competitive advantage.

The victory electric offers faster injection speeds and more user-friendly maintenance with its new electric injection units.

Even distribution of clamping force across all cavities is crucial for the production of high-quality components in high-cavity moulds, representing the second stage of maximum precision. Part by part, within each shot. Furthermore, the excellent platen parallelism of tie-bar-less injection moulding machines is a key feature for protecting moulds, which translates into reduced maintenance costs.

The large, unobstructed mould area of the tie-bar-less design in the victory electric also simplifies mould changes and accelerates maintenance operations. This increases overall uptime and significantly reduces production costs. It also enables the use of very large and complex moulds without requiring an alternative tie-bar machine with significantly higher clamping force. The compact design and small footprint of the machine make it particularly advantageous for facilities with limited space or cleanroom environments.

Since the victory electric is equipped as standard with an encapsulated toggle lever, the risk of oil leaks and contamination is significantly reduced. The absence of tie bars minimises airflow turbulence, which can dislodge dust and debris in the mould area. Both features are especially important in clean production environments, such as in medical technology. With the specially developed optional cleanroom package, qualifying the machine for use in cleanrooms up to ISO Class 7, ENGEL also sets benchmarks in cleanliness. The enclosed components and low-emission operation make the victory electric the ideal choice for industries requiring the highest cleanliness standards.

New Sales Leadership: JCM Plastics Joins Guill Tool’s Team

Guill Tool, the global leader in extrusion tooling, has hired a new sales representative firm. Located in Roswell, Georgia, JCM Plastics Machinery is a plastics and rubber manufacturing equipment representative, covering the Southeastern U.S. territory.

Joseph Guigli, the company’s President/Owner, holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Vermont. After graduation, he started working at Davis Standard in Pawcatuck, Connecticut. For the next 17 years, Guigli held various positions within the company ranging from mechanical engineer, screw designer, product manager, to regional sales manager and then Vice President of sales for the North American aftermarket.

Covering North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama, Guigli’s primary responsibility is to sell the extrusion product portfolio to existing and new customers. This includes “… providing these customers with the best buying experience possible from the time a project is kicked off until the customer is successfully using the equipment.”
